Top 3 Things to Do in Hurghada, Egypt

things to do in hurghada

Hurghada was once a quiet fishing village. Today, it’s one of the most famous holiday destinations in Egypt. It’s very popular among the tourists who want an all-inclusive holiday as well as among the lovers of scuba diving.

This resort town, with its sub-tropical desert climate, attracts tourists all year round. However, October to April is the most pleasant time to visit Hurghada.

Here are my 3 Favorite Things to Do in Hurghada!

1. Go Scuba Diving

The Red Sea is known for its spectacular diving sites, and it’s also one of the warmest and saltiest seas in the world. Hurghada is one of the best diving destinations in the world, where the quality of marine life is extraordinary. You can dive in the Red Sea at any time of year since it’s a year-round diving destination. The water temperatures drop to 30 degrees in summer and to 20 degrees in winter.

I went scuba diving with no prior experience, and it was amazing!

I caught sight of lots of colorful fish, coral species, and even a stonefish, which is a master of camouflage and one of the most venomous fish in the world.

2. Go Snorkeling and Explore Giftun Island

Giftun Island, also known as Paradise Island, is a desert island which you can easily reach by boat. It takes about 45 minutes to get there from Hurghada.

A local man offered us a boat trip at a very reasonable price, and we accepted it. On our way to the island, we saw some dolphins making acrobatic leaps out of the water. It was the most spectacular show I’ve ever seen.

After a while, we had a stop for snorkeling lasting one hour. We enjoyed snorkeling in the waters of the Red Sea, which is rich with colorful fish, aquatic life and beautiful corals.

When we approached the island, I was fascinated by its pure beauty. Its breathtaking, golden-sand beaches and turquoise, crystal clear water made me feel like I’m in a paradise.

3. Experience a Jeep Safari in the Sahara Desert

Jeep Safari in the Sahara Desert was definitely an interesting experience. We had an opportunity to experience the craziest Jeep ride we could imagine, visit a Bedouin village and ride a camel.

There are many agencies which organize this trip, so finding a good deal shouldn’t be a problem. Also, we didn’t need to worry about a meeting point, they picked us up at our hotel.

Since Egyptians are well-known as crazy drivers the trip was exciting from the first moment. Driving over sand dunes was a bit scary, but still fun, and it was just like being on a roller coaster.

After a while, we arrived at the Bedouin village. I wasn’t so impressed by it, since it was made only for tourists, but was interesting anyway. The Bedouin people sang some songs for us, and they showed us how to make the Bedouin bread. It was interesting to watch how they make this flatbread in a traditional way, especially the fact that they use dried camel dung as fuel.

When the sun started to go down, I took a camel ride. I was enjoying the ride through the desert while watching the beautiful sunset.
