Located along the Atlantic coast in southern Morocco, Agadir is a resort town, which thanks to its perfect climate attracts lots of tourists all year round. It’s mainly popular among tourists who are looking for an all-inclusive holiday.
Although there aren’t too many things to do in Agadir beside the resorts, it’s worth a visit. The city is a great base for day trips, and its nearby areas have to offer some of the best surfing spots in Morocco. Only half an hour drive from Agadir is located Taghazout, one of the most popular surf villages and home to many surf hostels and shops where you can take surf lessons or rent surf equipment.
Here are The 10 Best Things to Do in Agadir!
1. Watch The Beautiful Sunset
There’s nothing more relaxing than walking along the beach and enjoying the amazing sunset. It’s definitely one of my favorite things to do in Agadir. Sunsets here are just so beautiful, and some of the best I’ve ever seen.
2. Ride a Camel Along The Beach
Enjoy an unforgettable camel ride at sunset. It usually lasts 2 hours and includes dinner. You can choose one of the options below and have a memorable experience.
3. Visit El Had Souk
The biggest souk in Agadir is where you can find almost anything, from colorful spices, and fresh fruits and vegetables to electronics, furnishing, clothes, leather products, jewelry, and cosmetics.
When asking for a price, keep in mind that the vendors will always tell you a much higher price (usually three times higher) than you should pay. Bargaining is a must if you want to get a good deal.
NOTE: Don’t buy Argan oil at the souk. It’s not pure and they usually mix it with other oils.
4. Shop Pure Argan Oil
If I had to choose only one thing to buy in Morocco, it would be Argan oil. Known as ‘liquid gold’, Argan oil is rich in many nutrients, including fatty acids and vitamins A and E. The oil is produced from the kernels of the Argan tree, which is native to Morocco and used for cosmetic, medicinal, and culinary purposes.
Finding pure Argan oil is not easy. There are many different brands on the market. And, there’s fake Argan oil too.
So, how to choose pure Argan oil? Pay attention to its color and texture. It should be yellow in color, not watery, and easily absorbed into the skin.
Pure Argan oil that I use and highly recommend is Nectar Precieux. It leaves my skin very smooth and hydrated. You can find the shop in Agadir Av.Kadi Ayad Nº17 Imm 65.
5. Stroll Along The Seafront Promenade
This long promenade along the beach is full of shops, restaurants, and cafés. Although this part of the city can be overcrowded with tourists, it’s a great place to stroll around and have some drinks at one of the many bars.
If you get hungry or you want to buy some clothes, you should visit Marina Agadir located at the end of the promenade. The small marina has the western atmosphere, and there are many fine dining restaurants and a few clothing shops such as Zara, Stradivarius and Lacoste.
6. Buy a Fresh Juice at The Fruit Juice Kiosk
The Fruit Juice Kiosk was the best thing I discovered in Agadir. Just one month after I’d moved to Agadir, I noticed this amazing place and decided to try their avocado date smoothie. And, I absolutely loved it! So, I kept buying it almost every day.
The place is far from the tourist area, so you’ll only see local people here. Thanks to that, the prices are very low and range between 8Dh (or $0.8) and 14Dh (or $1.45). You can drink it there or take it away.
Address: Avenue 29 Fevrier, Agadir
7. Have a Drink at Riad Villa Blanche
The beautiful garden of Riad Villa Blanche is my favorite place to spend a morning or afternoon in Agadir. The riad looks like heaven, inside and outside. There are lots of plants and trees in the garden, and there’s a pool too. The experience of having a drink by the pool while being surrounded by the plants and listening to bird songs has no price.
8. Go Surfing
Whether you are an experienced surfer or you want to go surfing for the first time, Agadir and the surrounding areas have to offer some of the hottest surfing spots in Morocco. Although the city itself doesn’t have so many surf shops or schools, Taghazout, Anza and Tamraght that are known as surfing paradises are only a short distance away.
9. Get Off The Beaten Path – Visit Win-Timdouine Cave
One hour and a half from Agadir, on the top of Ida Outanane mountain, is situated Win-Timdouine Cave. You’ll enjoy the visit to the cave and swimming in the pool, and have a spectacular view of the berbere countryside.
10. Chill Out at Sol House Taghazout Bay-Surf
This hotel is very popular among surfers as well as locals. It offers bungalows, a swimming pool, a beach, beautiful sunsets, and a very relaxing atmosphere.
If you are one of those who want to party, you can visit Sol House every Thursday when there’s a nice electronic party which starts around 9 p.m. and ends between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m.
If you’re staying in Agadir and you want to discover some of the nearby places, you can book a trip with Get Your Guide.
